PLANNER RECRUITMENT 

The City of Creedmoor is currently recruiting for a Planner. Creedmoor’s population consists of 5000 residents and is located approximately 20 miles North of Raleigh, and 15 miles east of Durham/RTP in Granville County, North Carolina.  The City of Creedmoor is seeking a Planner to perform planning and design work to interpret and administer city codes, development regulations, standards, and plans. The hiring range for this position is from $49,234 to $59,785. Work is supervised by the Community Development Director and is evaluated through conferences, performance reviews of work results obtained, and overall acceptance of the programs by residents. Additional responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Confers with and provides technical assistance to property owners, contractors, developers, engineers, architects and the public regarding conformance to standards, plans, specifications and codes; explains codes, requirements and procedures and evaluates alternatives.
• Approves or makes recommendations for minor design and constructions changes; issues certificate of zoning compliance or refers major changes to the appropriate board or committee.
• Serves as staff resource for multiple volunteer boards and committees; prepares pertinent documents and may make presentations to the Planning Board, Board of Adjustment and Board of Commissioners.
• Responds to questions and inquiries on a variety of issues regarding the City’s development regulations; reviews planning and development permit applications and requests for conformity applicable development regulations and plans.
• Prepares and analyzes maps, GIS information and other graphical materials for the department, other city departments and the public.
• Researches records and maps to assist and provide information to financial institutions, attorneys and the general public, as requested; performs such research as necessary to gather and analyze such statistical and narrative data in preparation for board presentations.
• Visits subdivisions and/or tracts of land under consideration of zoning compliance, rezoning, variances, special use permits, etc., to determine applicability of various zoning and development ordinances, and prepares recommendations to boards and committees.

Requirements.

Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering, Earth Sciences, Business or Public Administration; and one - two years of experience; or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job.  American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) certification desired but not required. Certified Zoning Official (CZO) certification or the ability to obtain within 2 years of employment is required. Successful candidate must be responsible and possess the ability to work independently is required. Possession of a valid NC driver’s license with clean driving record, and the ability to pass a routine physical exam, pre-employment drug screening, and criminal background check are also required.
